Dr. Hamat graduated medical school in 1990 from the University of Toronto, Canada. He completed a 3 year internal medicine fellowship and subsequently did his gastroenterology fellowship from the University of Toronto. Dr. Hamat has been in private practice since 1997. Dr. Hamat has been a long standing board member of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) and has recently been named co-chairman of its medical advisory committee. As a member of the CCFA, Dr. Hamat has given many talks to patients, physicians and other health care professionals, educating them about inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Hamat is an expert in all the fields of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He performs all upper and lower endoscopic procedures as well as ERCPs. He believes that many doctors are too rushed when seeing patients and often don’t listen to what is being said.

In addition to general gastroenterology, He has a special interest and expertise in the management of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, having done extra training in this field during his fellowship. Dr. Hamat strongly believes that a strong patient-physician relationship is the key to providing high quality medical care. He believes that many doctors are too rushed when seeing patients and often don’t listen to what is being said. Dr. Hamat prides himself on giving patients his full attention and spending as much time with them as is needed. Dr. Hamat and his wife of 15 years, as well as their 11 year old son are proud to call Houston their home and have strong roots in the community. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Hamat enjoys reading and spending time with his family. He is often found at local baseball fields where he has coached and sponsored his son’s little league team.
